Topa is looking for a motivated Janitor to join our team on a full-time basis in Belle Plaine! The successful candidate will be responsible for working as part of the janitorial team to clean at the Belle Plaine Potash Mine site. This is a great opportunity to accelerate your career in the potash industry. 

 

Position Title: The Facilities Assistant (Temporary Coverage) and Light Duty Cleaner 

(Together, these positions will account for full-time hours)

Full-Time Temporary (with potential for permanent placement)

Location: Belle Plaine Mosaic Mine Site

Start Date: Immediately 

 

Facilities Assistant

 

Position Overview: The Facilities Assistant role is a temporary assignment designed to support the Facilities Coordinator in maintaining operational efficiency across the site.


Primary Responsibilities: 

Vehicle & Equipment Support

  • Fuel and clean Mosaic vehicles as required (Friday’s) • Conduct weekly fuel dips or as requested (Monday’s)

Pest Control

  • Perform trap checks around the Admin building and other designated areas • Dispose of mice when found or requested, reporting to Facilities Coordinator

Waste & Recycling

  • Monitor GFL roll-off bins for service needs (Monday’s)

Deliveries

  • Assist with Stores deliveries (Mondays & Tuesdays – approx. 2 hours/day)

PPE Support

  • Wednesdays: Pick up dirty PPE from Refinery and Mine Area o May–October: Additional PPE pick-up on Monday’s in Refinery
  • Thursdays: Offload/load Canadian Linen truck and deliver clean PPE o May–October: Additional PPE delivery on Tuesday’s in Refinery
  • Press name tags into garments and deliver
  • Assist with laundry duties as needed
  • Maintain Tool Crib coverall stock
  • Review PPE for repair or replacement

General Support

  • Assist with miscellaneous tasks
  • Support cleaning duties during downtime
  • Maintain earplug boxes, eyeglass cleaning stations, and hand sanitizer dispensers
  • Empty smoke pits

 

Light Duty Cleaner 

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
  • Gather and empty trash/recycling.
  • Service, clean, and stock restrooms.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  • Moving office furniture or other objects in a safe manner.
  • Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
  • Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Laundry services as instructed by supervisor
  • Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Disinfect all surfaces
  • Cleaning underground
  • Training new employees
  • Removal of cigarette butts/ash from outdoor receptacle

Skills & Qualifications        

    • Forklift operation (training provided, as needed)
    • Basic computer skills (email, name tag creation)
    • Strong communication skills for interacting with staff regarding deliveries and PPE
    • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and manage time
    • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing task
