 Job Type: Permanent Full-Time 

Pay:  $43,823 per annum

 

About the Role

 

The primary role of the Janitor is to ensure the proper cleaning of the shelter and the relevant buildings to Public Health specifications.

 

 

Duties include:

  • Dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces including walls, windows, flooring, furniture, fixtures, and equipment
  • Empty trash and garbage containers, and remove linens when necessary
  • Operating and maintaining housekeeping equipment
  • Managing and maintaining appropriate inventory of cleaning supplies and ensuring the Program Coordinator is informed
  • Properly and safely use cleaning chemicals per manufacturer and company standards
  • Utilizes procedures as trained in compliance with Health and Safety and Infection Control
  • Assisting in receiving donations and inventory, including bread runs etc.
  • Ensuring compliance with health regulations
  • Attentive to care, consideration, and confidentiality of clients, staff and visitors
  • Other duties as required

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 year’s commercial cleaning experience, ideally in a health care or similar environment.
  • Minimum of a Grade 10 education
  • Certified in WHIMS

 

Position Requirements:

  • Experience and comfort in cleaning up bodily fluids
  • Proven experience in working without supervision
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs (occasional to frequent), prolonged walking, standing, reaching
  • Reliable, enthusiastic, able to prioritize tasks
  • Reading and writing English fluently, and able to converse in English clearly
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations an asset
  • Must be able to pass a vulnerable sector search.
